Project description

The project Non-formal education for functional literacy of the Youth aims to strengthen the role of non-formal learning as a contribution to improving the functional literacy of young people in Bulgaria, Malta, Türkiye and Poland. It focuses on youth workers as key actors in supporting young people’s personal, social and civic development. Through research, training and structured exchanges, the project promotes approaches that complement formal education and respond to the needs of young people, especially those with fewer opportunities.

The initiative implements a set of work packages that include national studies on non-formal education, capacity-building activities for youth workers, team-building seminars in each partner country, an impact assessment framework and dissemination actions. The methodology combines experiential learning, collaborative activities, simulations and digital tools to reinforce participants’ ability to apply non-formal methods in their regular work.

The project pursues the following objectives:

• to increase the knowledge and competences of youth workers in applying non-formal learning methods to support functional literacy.
• to validate and promote practical tools for non-formal education through international training and local activities.
• to encourage cooperation among organisations working with young people and strengthen links between non-formal and formal education.
• to provide recommendations for youth policy, based on an impact assessment carried out through both qualitative and quantitative methods.
• to promote the value of non-formal education within local communities and among stakeholders at national and European levels.
